Particle System Screenshots
Just for fun here are some screenshots of what I have so far. I haven’t really worked on it much so its pretty rough and also I’m not much of an artist so the smoke texture is pretty basic.
I haven’t implemented point sprite rotation or more than one smoke texture variation so it looks very unrealistic. In addition you can see the performance hit when the screen is full of sprites. I have a feeling that this is due to the [GV]PU fill rate but I have yet to try making each sprite huge and having few of them.
I really want to experiment with volumetric shadowing and lighting next but my MSc is calling. Right now I am working on adding in tree based genomes for my genetic programming experiment. When using a linear genome with the fragment shaders there was simply too much intron for the evolution to be effective.
